Australia's Aug unemployment rate remains unchanged at 4.2%; employment doubles forecast

Kachura Oleg/iStock via Getty Images Australia's unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.2%, in line with forecasts and unchanged from July’s 2.5-year high. Data showed that employers added a net 47,500 jobs in August, nearly double the 25,000 expected by economists. The number of unemployed individuals dropped by 10.5 thousand to 627 thousand, with those looking for full-time jobs shrinking by 7.4 thousand to 421.9 thousand and those seeking part-time jobs declining by 3.2 thousand to 205 thousand. With the labor market still tight, the Reserve Bank is less likely to cut rates in the near term, defying the growing trend among central banks globally. The S&P/ASX 200 Index climbed 0.4% to above 8,170 on Thursday, hitting a new all-time high following a strong labor market report. ETFs: (EWA), (FXA), (FLAU).
