U.S. small businesses jointly sue Trump for tariff policies, saying they exceed the president's legal authority

According to Internet reports, according to Ibtimes, five small U.S. businesses have filed lawsuits in the U.S. Court of International Trade to challenge President Trump's recent extensive import tariff policy. The lawsuit, represented by the non-partisan Freedom Justice Center, accuses Trump of overstepping his authority to illegally seize Congress's tax power and questions the legitimacy of treating the trade deficit as a national emergency. The plaintiff companies come from different states and industries, including New York liquor importers and Vermont bicycle apparel brands, all of which claim that the tariffs have caused serious financial pressure. The lawsuit asks the court to block enforcement of tariffs and confirm that the president has no authority to impose such measures unilaterally. The White House argued that the tariffs were designed to protect U.S. businesses and workers and address long-term trade deficits.
