U.S. lawmakers delay cryptocurrency legislation timetable

At the first meeting of the U.S. Senate Banking Digital Assets Subcommittee on Wednesday, Senator Cynthia Lummis said the goal of a bipartisan group of pro-cryptocurrencies is to pass a comprehensive framework for the industry by the end of this year. This comes several months later than the previously announced timetable by Republican policymakers to pass Congress to advance reform of key cryptocurrency market structures. Newly appointed cryptocurrency czar David Sacks vowed earlier this month to push Congress to write digital asset market structural reforms and other pro-cryptocurrency initiatives into law within the first 100 days of President Trump's second administration. But at Wednesday's meeting, lawmakers and industry experts showed little urgency to speed up the work.
