Kyrgyzstan's crypto mining tax revenue will drop by 50% year-on-year in 2024

According to online reports, according to a budget document released by the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Kyrgyzstan, the contribution of crypto mining tax in 2024 will be 46.6 million som (approximately US$535,000), a decrease of more than 50% from the 93.7 million som (more than US$1 million) in 2023. The country's mining tax rate on crypto miners is 10% of electricity bills, including value-added tax and sales tax. Although Kyrgyzstan is regarded as an ideal place for mining due to its wealth of untapped renewable energy, the decline in tax revenue may be related to a decrease in mining activity. According to data from the International Energy Agency, 30% of the country's energy supply comes from hydropower, but only 10% of its hydropower potential has been developed so far.(Cointelegraph)
