Trump: Tariffs may cause "pain" to Americans, but "it will be worth it"
According to online reports, U.S. President Trump officially announced on the 1st that tariffs would be imposed on China, Canada, and Mexico, the three largest sources of imports to the United States, raising concerns about a trade war. On the 2nd local time, Trump admitted that Americans "may" feel economic "pain" due to tariffs, but also claimed that this was the "price" for making the United States "worth it" great again. "The United States is vying Canada, Mexico and China (and almost all countries!) With a huge deficit and US$36 trillion in debt, we will no longer be a 'stupid country'." Trump wrote on his own social platform Truth Social on the 2nd,"Why is the United States losing trillions of dollars to subsidize other countries, and why are these other countries only paying a small portion of the cost of medicines purchased by American citizens?"
