YouTube hits future 'AI Drakes' with updated policy
Last month, the company reportedly looked into licensing artists' voices for AI content, but now YouTube wants to punish AI-generated content.。
YouTube on Tuesday released a new policy update to crack down on AI-generated content that resembles speech and the style of music artists.。Earlier this year, the song "Heart on My Sleeve," which sounded like a song by Drake and The Weeknd, was composed by generative AI and received more than 600,000 plays, even considering a Grammy nomination.。
In a blog post, YouTube said: "We have also introduced a feature to our music partners to request the removal of AI-generated music content that mimics the artist's unique singing or rap voice.。"
Music created with generative artificial intelligence has shocked the world, and the songs are really nice and hard to distinguish from the real thing。A fan who bought an AI-generated Frank Ocean song for more than $100 spent $4,000 on Discord didn't know it was a scam。YouTube is trying to tackle the problem head-on, but they still seem to lack the practical tools to tackle it effectively。
YouTube will consider whether news outlets are reporting on the generation of AI songs, as well as analysis or criticism of synthetic sounds, to decide whether to remove the songs.。The video platform will also require creators to disclose when altered content was created using artificial intelligence.。These disclosures will appear on YouTube videos in the form of content tags。
The problem with these strategies is that a lot of the blame falls on the speech of the masses。Waiting for news media to cover a song created with generative AI, or waiting for analysts and critics to head to social media, could mean the song has gone mainstream.。Asking creators to tag their content, as Adobe added for AI-genera Ted Photos, relies heavily on well-meaning actors and may not work in practice.。
