Foxconn Chairman Liu Yangwei 18, visiting a factory in India, emphasized that Foxconn's hiring is gender-neutral and that female employees make up a large portion of the workforce, saying at the factory:- “Married women have made a huge contribution to the efforts we've made here.”
Foxconn is reportedly in the midst of an Indian government investigation into its hiring practices. This follows reports that Foxconn has rejected married women for iPhone assembly jobs on the grounds that they have more family responsibilities than unmarried women.
Liu Yangwei pointed out that Foxconn has so far invested more than $10 billion (currently about 71.7 billion yuan) in India and plans to increase its investment next year.
Foxconn provides accommodation and food for its employees in India, as well as a monthly salary of about $200, the source said.
