An attacker sent a zero-token transfer causing an error in the Pectra upgrade of the Sepolia Test Network

Internet reports that Ethereum's recent Pectra test on the Sepolia fork encountered a problem that was exacerbated by an unknown user sending a zero-token transfer. An Ethereum developer said the recent Pectra upgrade to the Sepolia testnet encountered an error and the situation became worse after an attacker used a "edge case" to cause empty blocks to be dug up. Pectra was launched on its last testnet, Sepolia, on March 5, at 7:29 a.m., but Ethereum developer Mariusvan der Wijden said in a March 8 post that the team immediately began seeing error messages on its geth node and dug up empty blocks. According to Van der Wijden, the reason for the error was that the deposit contract triggered the wrong type of event-a transfer event rather than a deposit event. Although the fix was introduced, van der Wijden said they missed a marginal case where an unknown user exploited the vulnerability by sending a 0 token transfer to the deposit address, triggering the error again.
