On March 6, the South Korean government announced a solution to the issue of compensation for victims of forced labor recruitment in Japan during World War II, deciding that a consortium under the South Korean Ministry of Administrative Security would raise funds to pay compensation on behalf of the defendant, a Japanese company.。On the same day, groups of forced labor victims rallied in Seoul to protest the South Korean government's plan as "humiliating diplomacy" against Japan.。On June 6, hundreds of South Korean workers and representatives of their families and civic groups came to the square in front of the Seoul Metropolitan Government to hold a rally to protest against the hasty agreement between the Korean and Japanese governments on compensation for forced labor and to urge the government to withdraw the programme。The organizers of the event announced that they would take to the streets every Saturday to protest, calling on the South Korean government not to engage in "humiliating diplomacy" and to respect the demands of the victims of forced labor recruitment, demanding that Japan sincerely apologize and compensate the victims.。There are also victims who say they will never accept this kind of compensation made by South Korean companies in place of the Japanese side.。Not long ago, Elder Leung Kam-tak, a representative of the victims of forced labor recruitment, also held a press conference in Seoul, accompanied by lawyers and representatives of civic groups, calling on the South Korean government not to compromise with the Japanese government on related issues.。
