Trump administration seeks to transfer California governor's tariff lawsuit to New York, saying the International Trade Court has exclusive jurisdiction

Internet reports that the Trump administration is seeking to transfer California Governor Newsom's legal challenge to the U.S. tariff plan from the federal court in San Francisco to the International Trade Court in New York. Lawyers for the U.S. Department of Justice filed a request on Thursday to move the case away from Newsom's turf, arguing that the trade court has "exclusive jurisdiction" over tariff-related disputes. The Democratic governor of the most populous state is seen as a potential presidential candidate in 2028. On Wednesday, Newsom joined California Attorney General Rob Bonta in suing the president. They are trying to prevent Trump from using emergency powers to impose widespread tariffs on countries such as Mexico and Canada. Newsom and Bonta cited injuries to California consumers and businesses, including agriculture and entertainment. In terms of economic aggregate, California can be regarded as the "fifth largest economy in the world." Trump's tariffs face at least three other legal challenges, two of which were filed by conservative legal advocacy groups representing small businesses, and a third by members of the Montana Blackfoot Nation.
