Hidden code from former employees turns workplaces into cryptocurrency mines "
According to the U.S. District Attorney's Office of Minnesota, Joshua Paul Armbrust, a 44-year-old Minnesota man, has been charged with a "crypto hijacking" program that used computing resources from his former employer to mine Ethereum (ETH), causing more than $45,000 in damage. Between December 2020 and May 2021, Armbrust accessed the Amazon Web Services (AWS) account of its former company Digital River without permission and used its resources to conduct unauthorized cryptocurrency mining.
