BYD Hits Fuel Cars Hard: Fuel Consumption Below 2L per 100km, Range Reaches 2100km

According to BYD, the engine thermal efficiency of the fifth generation DM technology is 46.06%, the highest in the world; The fuel consumption per 100 kilometers is 2.9L, the lowest in the world; The comprehensive range reaches up to 2,100 kilometers, which is the longest in the world!

On May 28th, BYD's fifth generation DM technology release and Qin L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i press conferences were held in Xi'an. At the press conference, BYD's products were once again shocking.

Release of 5th Generation DM Technology

After three years, BYD released the latest generation of DM technology.

At the press conference, Wang Chuanfu stated that the fifth generation DM technology will start research and development in 2021, with over 10,000 engineers participating in the research and development. After more than 1,000 days of technical research and development, these engineers passed multiple rounds of testing and verification in September last year, ultimately achieving a historic low of 2.9L/100Km in fuel consumption.

BYD bluntly stated that its fifth generation DM technology is the world's most impressive plug-in hybrid system, which will once again rewrite the history of global automotive fuel consumption, usher in a "2" era of fuel consumption, and redefine a new benchmark for plug-in hybrid technology.

BYD stated that the fifth generation DM technology benefits from the strong technological foundation endowed by the three major innovative architectures.

● Electric-based power architecture

Electric-based power architecture, plug-in hybrid dedicated high-efficiency engine to achieve the world's highest 46.06% thermal efficiency, EHS electric hybrid system achieves an ultimate structural design that increases power density by 70.28% and significantly reduces energy flow path losses, resulting in a comprehensive operating efficiency of 92%. Plug-in mixing special blade battery, energy density increased by 15.9%, to ensure the "heart" full "blood supply".

● Full temperature range vehicle thermal management architecture

The industry's first full temperature range vehicle thermal management architecture, the fifth generation thermal management architecture has risen to the same level of importance as the power architecture, from independent systems to the overall architecture.

It consists of front cabin thermal management, battery thermal management, and cabin thermal management, working together to ensure the lowest energy consumption. This architecture allows vehicles to save up to 10% of energy consumption in high-temperature environments and up to 8% in low-temperature environments, ensuring a dual experience of energy conservation and comfort.

● Intelligent electric fusion electronic and electrical architecture

The intelligent integration of electronic and electrical architecture integrates the industry's first plug-in hybrid power domain control seven in one, achieving functional reuse and an 18.3% increase in power density. Pioneering chip integration in the industry, achieving the integration of VCU (voltage control unit) and dual MCU (motor control unit) into one, increasing chip computing power by 146%, fully enhancing the integration and performance of the entire vehicle.

Launch of two models based on fifth-generation DM technology

After releasing the fifth generation DM technology, BYD announced the launch of the first models of the fifth generation DM technology: the Qin L DM-i and the Seal 06 DM-i.

The Qin L DM-i and the Seal 06 DM-i are both plug-in hybrid models, with fuel consumption only one-third of that of gasoline cars, but their overall range is three times that of gasoline cars.

At the press conference, BYD also released test data from multiple media outlets, among which the average measured fuel consumption of Qin L DM-i was 2.26L/100Km, and the average measured fuel consumption of Seal 06 DM-i was 2.11L/100Km. In addition, both cars have a measured comprehensive range of over 2,300 kilometers with full fuel and electricity, reaching a record high of 2,547 kilometers.

With the support of the fifth generation DM technology, compared to gasoline vehicles, BYD stated that the above DM models can save 9,682 yuan per year with charging conditions, and 6,888 yuan per year without charging conditions.

It is worth noting that the above two cars have been launched at the same price, with prices ranging from 99,800 to 139,800 yuan, and there are a total of 5 versions to choose from.

With low fuel consumption, high range, and a starting price of less than 100,000 yuan, BYD has dealt another heavy blow to gasoline powered cars.

After the release of the fifth generation DM technology, BYD has made no secret of its ambition to continue to label fuel vehicles as "non mainstream". In April this year, the penetration rate of new energy vehicles in China exceeded 50% for the first time, and the penetration rate of new energy vehicle registration also exceeded 50% in mid month. Wang Chuanfu believes that this is a historic moment, marking the mainstream of new energy vehicles and the non mainstream of fuel vehicles.

BYD stated, "With new energy vehicles becoming mainstream, the release of BYD's fifth generation DM technology will further accelerate the process of oil to electricity conversion in the automotive market."

In 2023, the sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles in China increased by 85% year-on-year, making it the hottest track in the new energy market. As of now, BYD's plug-in hybrid models have accumulated sales of over 3.6 million, and for every 2 plug-in hybrid vehicles sold in China, one is BYD. For every 4 plug-in hybrids sold globally, 3 of them are Chinese brands, and BYD has led China's plug-in hybrids to become the mainstream route of global automotive technology.

BYD President Wang Chuanfu stated at the meeting that China's automotive industry has reached the pinnacle of the world in plug-in hybrid technology. "The world's most advanced plug-in hybrid technology is all in China! The global plug-in hybrid has entered the Chinese moment!"

CICC wrote in a research report, "In 2021, with the release of the fourth generation DM technology, we saw that DM4.0 led BYD's plug-in hybrid sales to a new level. In 2022/2023, the sales of plug-in hybrid models reached 946,000/1,438,000 units."

CICC stated that the launch of Qin L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i is expected to support continued strong month on month sales, and the product structure is expected to gradually improve. And it is said that the pricing and overall quality of the above two models are competitive compared to gasoline vehicles of the same level.

"In addition, according to the catalog of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Seal X, DENZA Z9 GT, and FangChengBao 8 are expected to be launched one after another, which we believe is expected to drive the company's monthly sales to continue to increase compared to the previous month."
