From $1 trillion to $2 trillion.$5 trillion: Cryptocurrency thrives in six months with institutional support

From October 2023 to March 2024, the value of the cryptocurrency market soared from $1 trillion to $2 trillion..$5 trillion。Institutional interest in the industry and venture capital funding fueled this growth.

从 1 万亿美元到 2.5 万亿美元:加密货币在机构支持下在六个月内蓬勃发展

Bybit and Treehouse Finance recently highlighted these findings in a report titled Institutional Industry Report 2024. The study covers the recovery in derivatives, challenger chains and venture capital.

Optimism in the derivatives market

According to the report, the mood in the derivatives market is optimistic. Despite the relatively sideways price action of Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) in March, they still exhibited significant bullish premiums, indicating bullish investor sentiment.

This outlook hints that these leading prices could appreciate the cryptocurrencies significantly by the end of the year. Bitcoin's position as a traditional financial (TradFi) hedge remains strong, with its correlation to major stock indices below 3%.

Notably, Bitcoin's negative correlation with equity returns reinforces its role as a diversifier of equity portfolios. In addition, challenger chains have seen renewed interest since Q4 2023, with native tokens outperforming Ether.

Solana in particular is leading the way, locking in significant growth in total value and transaction volume. This trend highlights the increasing competitiveness of the industry's blockchain ecosystem.

In addition, the cryptocurrency industry has experienced a significant recovery in venture capital investment, with deals hitting record highs in the first quarter of 2024. Notable sectors attracting capital include hardware wallets, blockchain data providers, and gaming projects. This trend signifies the diversity of the investment landscape.

Cryptocurrency Adoption

As Bitcoin's fourth halving event approaches, there is much speculation about its potential impact on market dynamics. Historical precedent suggests that halving events often coincide with significant price spikes. This event marks a pivotal moment of opportunity and challenge in the cryptocurrency space, where institutional interest is on the rise and the regulatory environment is evolving.

In addition to this, Bybit's report highlights the current state of adoption of digital assets globally. The center of cryptocurrency adoption has shifted to Central and Southeast Asia, with countries like India leading the way. Grassroots adoption is evident across different regions, highlighting the global reach and influence of cryptocurrencies.

Despite fluctuating adoption rates, countries around the world are experiencing a resurgent recovery, highlighting the enduring appeal and potential of cryptocurrencies in different economic environments.
