Nexi launches iPhone touch-screen payment service for Italian merchants
Merchants can use SoftPOS to accept payments via iPhone without additional hardware. Tap to Pay supports contactless payments, including credit cards and digital wallets.
European payment technology company Nexi has announced that Italian merchants can now accept face-to-face contactless payments using Tap to Pay on the iPhone. The service will gradually be extended to other European countries that offer it.
Introducing contactless transactions
The Tap to Pay feature on the iPhone allows merchants to accept contactless payments without additional hardware, including payments made with credit and debit cards, Apple Pay and other digital wallets. Merchants can use the iPhone and the Nexi SoftPOS app to facilitate transactions.
During the checkout process, customers can complete their payment by simply holding their contactless card, iPhone or Apple Watch near the merchant's iPhone. Transactions are securely processed using NFC technology, and Tap to Pay on iPhone also supports PIN entry and includes accessibility options.
Apple's technology keeps business and customer data private and secure. Card numbers are not stored on the device or Apple servers when processing payments.
Roberto Catanzaro, Chief Commercial Officer, Nexi Merchant Solutions, commented, “Enabling Nexi SoftPOS on Apple devices gives Italian merchants more flexibility and choice, making the shopping experience easier for consumers and creating additional revenue opportunities to grow their businesses. “
SoftPOS Supports Mobile Payment Processing
Nexi's SoftPOS solution provides merchants with a cost-effective, simple and secure way to make digital payments. It allows real-time transaction management and easy issuance of receipts, providing merchants with greater flexibility and mobility. Payments can be processed on an Apple device from any location, eliminating the need for a fixed cash register.
Merchants using Nexi can activate contactless payment acceptance on an iPhone XS or higher running the latest iOS version by downloading the Nexi App from the Apple App Store. This setup allows merchants to start accepting contactless payments within minutes.
Catanzaro added: “By expanding our mobile services, we are taking another step towards increasing the adoption of digital payments in Italy and beyond, and we want to help merchants and consumers across Europe benefit from a more convenient way to pay.”
