Vitalik: The growth of the application layer is the period when good social philosophy is most needed
On April 13, it was reported that "Ethereum's self-renewal requires the replacement of generations/talents. And the next generation needs to be rooted in Ethereum values (such as cypherpunk), Vitalik Buterin replied in Warpcast: "I actually think the growth of the application layer is the period when good social philosophy is most needed. An analogy: Suppose C++ was developed by a totalitarian racist fascist. Could it be a worse language? Probably not. C++ is universal, and there is not much room for bad social philosophy to destroy it (or good social philosophy to improve it). Ethereum Layer-1 is not exactly the case: People who don't believe in decentralization won't add light clients, FOCIL, or (good form) account abstractions; people who don't mind energy waste won't spend five years migrating to PoS... but the opcodes for EVM may be roughly the same anyway. As a result, Ethereum may be 50% universal. About 80% of applications are dedicated. What kind of application you build depends largely on your idea of what the Ethereum application (and Ethereum as a whole) will do for the world. So it becomes crucial to have good ideas on the subject." In addition, Vitalik listed some applications, and considered good applications such as Railgun, Farcaster, Polymarket, and Signal, and bad ones such as Pump.fun, Terra/Luna, and FTX. It believes that differences in application functionality stem from developers 'different beliefs about the goals they want to achieve.
