Kuwait warns against illegal cryptocurrency mining
Internet reports that the Ministry of the Interior of Kuwait issued a statement on April 22 declaring cryptocurrency mining an illegal activity, saying it violated multiple laws in the country and put pressure on power infrastructure. The ban involves laws such as the Criminal Law Amendment No. 31 of 1970, the Communications and Information Technology Regulation Law No. 37 of 2014, the Industrial Law No. 56 of 1996, and the Municipal Regulation No. 33 of 2016. The Ministry of Interior of Kuwait pointed out that unauthorized cryptocurrency mining has led to "excessive consumption of electricity and energy and increased the load on public power grids," causing power outages in residential areas, commercial areas and industrial areas, and affecting the supply of basic services. The warning was jointly issued by the Ministry of Electricity, Water Resources and Renewable Energy, the State Administration of Communications and Information Technology, the State Administration of Industry and municipal departments. Authorities have asked relevant mining entities to "rectify immediately" and stressed that legal measures will be taken against violators, including handing them over to investigation authorities.
