According to online reports, only 4% of the world's population currently holds Bitcoin, with the United States having the highest concentration of holding, with an estimated 14% of individuals owning BTC. According to research by BTC financial services company River, North America remains the continent with the highest adoption rates by individuals and institutions, while Africa currently has the lowest, at just 1.6%. Overall, the adoption rate of BTC in developed regions tends to be higher than in developing regions. River estimates that BTC has only achieved 3% of its maximum adoption potential-a sign that the digital currency is still in the early stages of global adoption.
