People familiar with the matter: The EU accuses Musk's X of suspected false information violations and considers fines exceeding US$1 billion "

On April 4, according to Wall Street reports, the European Union plans to impose a heavy penalty of more than US$1 billion on Musk's social platform X because X is suspected of violating the Digital Services Law and failed to effectively regulate false information and illegal content on the platform. Regulators are also advancing a second investigation into X and may include Musk's revenue from other private companies in the base of fines, which may ultimately exceed expectations. Analysts believe that the EU's recent supervision of technology companies may be one of the reasons why Trump announced high tariffs on the EU this week. The New York Times quoted four people familiar with the matter as saying that EU regulators are preparing to impose heavy fines on Musk's social platform X for allegedly violating the Digital Services Act (DSA) on combating illegal content and false information. The penalty is expected to be officially announced this summer or become the first formal penalty issued by the European Union under the law.
