Snowflake and Nvidia Formally Reach Partnership: Users Can Generate Their Own AI Models

On Monday, local time, cloud data analytics company Snowflake and chip leader Nvidia officially announced their partnership at the 2023 Snowflake Summit。The move will allow Snowflake's users to build custom AI models using their internal data, meaning Snowflake's customers will be able to pull information from its vast database of information.。

The collaboration will enable the cloud services company's more than 8,000 customers to build their own generative AI assistants and allow customers from financial institutions to healthcare and retail to build AI models using their own data.。

Specifically, Nvidia provides a low-level toolkit called NeMO, which provides a basic large-scale language model that Snowflake customers can customize with their own data。Nvidia will also provide the infrastructure, including the graphics processing units that customers need to train them to generate AI models.。

In fact, before reaching a partnership with Snowflake, Nvidia also announced in May this year that it would establish a similar partnership with ServiceNow (NOW).。However, ServiceNow does not allow customers to train their own generative AI models, but rather trains the models themselves.。The idea is to provide customers with a way to quickly leverage the power of generating artificial intelligence without having to train the platform based on their own data。

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang told the media: "In the past, in the field of small data computing, you moved the data to the computer.。"。"But when you have a lot of data like Snowflake, and a bunch of proprietary data... data that is very valuable to the company, you move the computation to the data."。"

In this case, Nvidia is taking a "fairly engineering-intensive" initiative to embed its NeMo platform for training and running generated AI models into the Snowflake Data Cloud, Huang said.

In response, Snowflake Chairman and CEO Frank Slotman said: "This is significant.。This is the last mile we've been waiting for 40 years。"。"Every industry is looking at this.。They used to say that software was eating the world。Well, now data is eating away at software, "he said of the importance of data today.。

Slotman also said that companies that use Snowflake to manage data will now be able to use their own data to train new AI models to gain a business advantage without risking losing control over them.。

Although the two companies have not disclosed the financial details of the partnership, Huang said Nvidia will eventually benefit as more customers use computers for artificial intelligence work.。

You know, Nvidia's stock is up 159% in the past 12 months and 189% so far this year。Precisely because Nvidia is the company of choice for AI chips, its newly released graphics chip is very good at performing the kind of parallel processing needed for AI。

"We sell more chips and we have an AI operating system called Nvidia AI Enterprise.。The operating system enables our chips to handle artificial intelligence, "Huang said.。Nvidia charges customers to use its Nvidia AI enterprise software。

In November 2022, when OpenAI released ChatGPT, the industry of generative artificial intelligence began to explode.。Since then, companies from Microsoft to Google to Meta and Amazon have released products or discussed developing the technology.。

But Nvidia, which has been investing in developing the chips used to run AI systems and the software that powers them, has naturally become one of the biggest beneficiaries of this boom.。

ChatGPT is pushing many companies to find their own AI strategies and is pushing Nvidia, which provides the main hardware for AI, to become a trillion-dollar company.。But AMD, which is part of the same chipmaker as Nvidia, still falls short of Nvidia's current lead, and although AMD also unveiled its latest graphics processing chips this month, the results don't seem to be meeting expectations。
