California's financial regulator warns of seven new cryptocurrencies and artificial intelligence scams

The Internet reported that a financial regulator in California said that in 2024, users reported seven new cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence scams through thousands of complaints, something unseen before. The California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) said in a March 10 statement that it received 2668 complaints in 2024 and found seven types of fraud that they have not yet documented, such as fake Bitcoin mining schemes, in which scammers provide fake mining investments. DFPI has also received complaints about fake cryptocurrency game schemes in which users are encouraged to deposit funds but their wallets are emptied, and scammers provide fake jobs that require victims to transfer cryptocurrency and provide private information.
