Robinhood chief information security officer: The biggest obstacle to the encryption industry is not regulation, but user experience

On April 13, Katelyn Perna, chief information security officer of Robinhood Cryptography, said that the goal of the encryption industry should be to design tools that make encryption easy to access, secure and simple without sacrificing self-hosting or decentralization. As the crypto industry matures, much of the focus remains on regulation, custody and scalability. But in 2025, the biggest obstacle to adoption is not policy, but user experience. Crypto's interface is still too complex for everyday users. From managing mnemonics to deciphering blockchain transactions, getting on the job feels more like walking through a maze than joining the financial revolution. Wallets remain fragmented, non-intuitive and risky. To achieve mainstream adoption, the industry must prioritize usability-making wallets and financial instruments more accessible-without compromising the core principles of decentralization. Until then, poor user experience will continue to hinder the development of cryptocurrencies.
