Hong Kong will continue to maintain its free port status and will not impose additional US tariffs."

Internet reports that U.S. President Trump announced that among the world-renowned "reciprocal tariffs", he planned to impose a 34% tariff on China. In the subsequent announcement of countermeasures, the China government decided to impose a 34% tariff on all imported goods originating in the United States. On April 6, Paul Chan, Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong SAR Government, revealed in his blog: "Hong Kong will continue to maintain its status as a free port, implement free trade policies, and ensure the free and convenient flow of goods, funds and information." Under the principle of "one country, two systems", Hong Kong is a separate customs territory. Hong Kong has always imposed no tariffs on all imported goods, including products from the United States. In addition, since Hong Kong does not impose consumption tax and value-added tax, and American goods are subject to an additional tariff of 34% when entering mainland China, there may be a significant price advantage when purchasing American goods in Hong Kong in the future. This price difference may stimulate more mainland tourists to go to Hong Kong to purchase American goods.
