Some Republican lawmakers are cautious about Musk's federal government reform plan
On February 11, CNN reported that although the Republican Party publicly expressed its support for President Trump and Musk's plan to cut federal government personnel, some Republican lawmakers expressed concern about this move that could weaken Congress's power to control the federal budget. The report pointed out that some Republican lawmakers have begun to take action, such as Nebraska Rep. Don Bacon, calling for an item-by-item audit of the federal government rather than a complete abolition. Minnesota Rep. Pete Stauber and Texas Rep. Pete Sessions met privately with representatives of the Federal Employees Union. It is worth noting that although federal government workers are mainly concentrated in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia, about 80% of federal employees are distributed in other regions of the country, making the impact of the government reform plan far beyond the metropolitan area.
