U.S. consumer confidence plummets, with important indicators hitting the largest decline since 2021
Internet reports that U.S. consumer confidence fell this month by the largest since August 2021, amid concerns about the overall economic outlook and uncertainty about the Trump administration's policies. The Conference Board's confidence index for February released on Tuesday fell 7 points to 98.3, the third consecutive month of decline. A measure of expectations for the next six months also hit the largest decline in three and a half years, although the decline in current indicators was more moderate. Residents and companies of all sizes are now more cautious, particularly nervous by seemingly returning inflationary pressures, tariffs and a cooling labor market.
