According to online reports, Forbes reporter Eleanor Terrett posted on platform X that the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is about to announce a reorganization of its law enforcement department to end the so-called "enforcement-style supervision" practice and make better use of institutional resources to prevent fraud, manipulation and abuse, and ensure market integrity. The previous law enforcement task force will be simplified into two new task forces, called the Complex Fraud Task Force and the Retail Fraud and General Law Enforcement Task Force. The Complex Fraud Task Force will be responsible for preliminary investigations, investigations and litigation of complex fraud and manipulation related to all asset classes. The interim head of the working group will be Deputy Director Paul Hayeck. The Retail Fraud and General Enforcement Task Force will focus on retail fraud and handle general enforcement matters involving other violations of the Commodity Exchange Act. The interim head of the working group will be Deputy Director Charles Marvine. According to CFTC press officials, the streamlining is also aimed at preventing excessive agency interference and enhancing consistency, fairness and due process.
