On May 23, it was reported that the domestic Model 3 and Model Y models manufactured by Tesla Shanghai Super Factory have been officially exported to North America.。

On May 23, it was reported that the domestic Model 3 and Model Y models manufactured by Tesla Shanghai Super Factory have been officially exported to North America.。

According to Tesla's official website, the rear-wheel drive Model Y and long-range all-wheel drive Model 3 made by the Shanghai super factory are already ready for immediate delivery in British Columbia, Canada, which means that the electric car manufacturer has completed the first shipment from the Shanghai factory to North America.。

It is reported that Tesla uses a code corresponding to the first three digits of the vehicle identification number (VIN) when listing vehicles for sale。The VIN of Tesla models produced at the Shanghai factory all start with the letter "LRW"

With the boom in exports in China, Tesla has a cost advantage in exporting to China。According to the official website, the Chinese-made Model Y sells for 61,980 Canadian dollars (RMB 322,812.5 yuan)。The price of the same model on Tesla's China website is only 263,900 yuan, and although China has experienced several price cuts in the past six months, the price in Canada is still about 22% higher than the cost of the same vehicle in China before the incentives.。

It is worth noting that both models currently sold to Canada are eligible for a preferential subsidy of 5,000 Canadian dollars (3,700 US dollars), but unlike the United States, the Canadian government does not link the subsidy for electric vehicles to the location of the car manufacturing plant.。

According to a media review of Tesla's production plan, the automaker has designed and tested Model Y vehicles for export to North America, and aims to produce nearly 9,000 export vehicles this quarter.。It's unclear how many Chinese-made Tesla cars are available for purchase in Canada, or which have already been sold.。

But what we can know is that this move has opened up a new market for Tesla's Shanghai branch.。Tesla's Shanghai plant has been the backbone of Tesla, with data showing that Tesla's Shanghai branch accounted for more than half of Tesla's global production last year.。

In addition, Tesla's move to export from Shanghai to Canada could help it keep cars made at its California and Texas plants for sale in the United States, which are eligible for up to $7,500 in potential tax breaks under the Biden administration's subsidy program.。

Up to now, Tesla China has been shipped to Europe, America, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and other more than 10 countries and regions for sale。And according to people familiar with the matter, Tesla's Shanghai super factory is accelerating the localization process, and the localization rate of parts is close to 90%.。

In the future, China is likely to become the focus of the development of the global new energy vehicle industry, leading other countries in terms of new energy vehicle ownership and penetration.。
