On February 8, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced that Evan Frederick Light, a 22-year-old man from Lebanon, Indiana, was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison with three years of supervised release for conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to money laundering. In February 2022, Light hacked into an investment holding company in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, stole the personal identification information of nearly 600 customers and stole more than $37 million worth of cryptocurrency. In addition to serving his sentence, Light will also be required to pay a special contribution of $200 to the federal victims fund and will be required to pay no less than $37 million in damages.
