Former CTO of SafeMoon admits involvement in $200 million cryptocurrency fraud

Online reports, Cointelegraph reported that SafeMoon Chief Technology Officer Thomas Smith pleaded guilty to a count of cryptocurrency fraud in Brooklyn federal court. Smith pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to commit securities fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud, which carry maximum sentences of 25 and 20 years, respectively. The U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission have accused Smith of participating in the fraud with SafeMoon CEO Braden John Karony and founder Klee Nagy. Prosecutors said the three men falsely claimed to investors that the liquidity of SafeMoon (SFM) tokens was locked and inaccessible, but in fact they were able to access and misappropriate more than $200 million for personal purposes such as purchasing luxury cars and real estate.
