On December 23, two car companies, Honda and Nissan, officially announced that they would merge through the establishment of a holding company. According to people familiar with the matter, Mitsubishi Motors, in which Nissan holds a part of the shares, will also be included in the group and strive to reach a final agreement in June 2025.
If the merger of the three companies is completed, their annual sales are expected to exceed 8 million vehicles, enough to challenge global giants Toyota and Volkswagen to become the world's third largest automobile group. According to performance data, in the first half of fiscal year 2024, Nissan's net profit plummeted by 90%, while Honda's sales in the Chinese market have also declined for 10 consecutive months!
