Musk's "grand plan" has been unveiled. Come in and see what information is worth paying attention to.?

On March 1, local time, Tesla's much-anticipated Investor Day event was held as scheduled at the Superplant in Austin, Texas, and the third part of the electric car maker's CEO Elon Musk's previously much-hyped "ambitious plan" was unveiled.。But in the four-hour speech, Musk only laid out his vision to lead the world's transition to sustainable energy, but the details of the new products that the public is looking forward to are not mentioned.。

At the event, Musk confirmed that a new super factory in Monterrey, Mexico will be responsible for producing the next generation of cars, but he did not provide specific details and timing, saying that "appropriate product activities" will be held at another time.。Lars Moravy, Tesla's vice president of automotive engineering, was equally vague, answering analysts' questions about timing with only one line: "We're going to move as fast as we can.。"

The longer the speech goes on, the more discouraged investors seem to be。So Tesla's stock fell nearly 6 percent in after-hours trading on Wednesday.。And before the start of the investor day event, Tesla's stock price had soared from its lows in early January, adding about $310 billion to its market cap, allowing Musk to return to his position as the world's richest man.。

Previously, Musk had released his first master plan in 2006, setting out Tesla's go-to-market strategy of building electric sports cars and then launching a series of more affordable vehicles.。The company has delivered on that vision, launching the Roadster, Model S and Model 3 sedans.。

Ten years later, Musk released the second part of the master plan (Part Deux) when Tesla acquired SolarCity in 2016.。Musk is chairman of the solar panel installer, which is headed by his cousin.。The plan talks about a solar roof with battery storage, an expanded vehicle lineup and self-driving technology.。

Now, seven years later, we have arrived at the third part of the master plan, this time with the theme of a sustainable energy economy.。Musk, 51, began the event by outlining his vision for a global shift to electric vehicles, driven by up to $10 trillion in global spending on sustainable energy development.。"The planet will move towards a sustainable energy economy.。"。"This will happen in your lifetime," Musk said.。

Here are the main takeaways from this Investor Day event:

Sustainable Energy Economy

Musk took the stage early and began his speech with Andrew Baglino, Tesla's senior vice president of powertrain.。Musk started with his broad, all-encompassing vision of how to bring humanity into a sustainable future.。Musk said: "There is a clear path to a fully sustainable planet with abundant resources.。"What we are trying to convey is a message of hope and optimism."。"

Musk pointed out that this requires a lot of battery energy storage, and the earth needs 240TWh of energy storage, which is already a lot。This includes electric cars and independent battery storage, Musk said。As battery efficiency increases and energy density increases, Musk believes that all forms of transportation will use batteries。

The main way to achieve this - in Musk's and Tesla's vision - is a multi-stage process in which humans will need to build a renewable energy grid (i.e. solar and wind), convert all cars to electric vehicles, switch to heat pumps for heat generation, use hydrogen for high-temperature thermal applications, and use sustainable fuels and energy for aircraft and ships.。

Next-generation automotive platforms or new automotive products

To the disappointment of investors, Tesla's head of design, Franz von Holzhausen, said the next generation of cars would be unveiled at a later date, while Tesla would only discuss the platform.。

Design is key to the platform, says von Hozhausen。Tesla engineers had to think differently about how to build a vehicle like the Cybertruck.。Tesla says it has a smaller manufacturing footprint to make Cybertruck because it doesn't need to punch or paint the panels。

Tesla wants to rethink manufacturing-it starts with Model Y, and the battery is a structural part of the vehicle floor。Tesla says this type of design will reduce costs by 50% and reduce factory floor space by 40% - all of which will be part of the 3rd generation platform design。

Tesla also pointed out that it will not design and manufacture motors that use rare earth metals for the drive units of the 3rd generation platform。

Finally, Tesla said once again that Cybertruck will be launched this year, and mass production is expected in 2024.。

New plant, new milestone and charging infrastructure

During the Q & A part of the speech, Tesla announced that it will build its next plant in Monterrey, Mexico。By the end of 2022, Tesla expects to install about 1.9 million vehicles a year, and Musk speculates that Tesla will need a total of 12 super factories to produce 20 million vehicles a year.。

In addition, according to Tesla, the company has built its 4 million vehicles, which is a huge milestone, although it aims to reach an annual operating rate of 20 million vehicles.。

In addition, the head of Tesla's charging infrastructure revealed that more than 50% of European charging ports in Tesla's network are open to non-Tesla vehicles.。Tesla says it has 10 supercharger sites in the U.S. that are open to non-Tesla companies for fast charging。Tesla opening up its charging network is a prerequisite for it to get White House funding for electric vehicle charging infrastructure。

Battery aspect

Musk's other grand plan is to make batteries in-house.。Tesla has long wanted to supplement supplies from companies such as Japan's Panasonic and China's Ningde Times with its own 4680 battery.。

Increasing production of thicker, larger batteries will be key to expanding capacity for electric vehicles and energy products。The latter includes Powerwall battery systems for home energy storage and Megapack for commercial customers.。

Tesla said it has broken ground on a lithium refinery in Corpus Christi, Texas, and plans to start producing battery-grade lithium chemicals within 12 months.。This means that Musk will further enrich the raw material procurement strategy.。
