According to the report, the European Commission has imposed temporary tariffs of up to 37.6% on electric cars imported from China. It has sought the views of EU member states through a so-called “advisory” vote.
Sources said 12 EU member states voted in favor of the tariffs, four voted against and 11 abstained.
Among them, including France, Italy and Spain, 12 countries voted in favor of the formal imposition of tariffs, 4 member states against, while Germany, Sweden and Finland, 11 member states abstained from voting, while Hungary condemned.
The report also cited sources saying that the EU executive committee was considering lower tariffs on BMW and Volkswagen electric cars made in China as a compromise.
