At the Build 2024 conference, Microsoft (MSFT) showcased several AI innovations, highlighting its potential in enhancing work efficiency and user experience, especially with technologies like Copilot and Phi-3-vision, which are expected to significantly improve internal business processes and AI applications on mobile devices. However, the successful adoption of these new features still relies on the support and active participation of the developer community, and Microsoft needs to provide more tools and resources to attract developers for application development and migration.
The keynote address at Microsoft Build 2024 focused on Windows and AI, even mentioning custom emojis. Like other industry players, Microsoft is striving to integrate AI technology into various domains, from aiding in Minecraft gameplay to providing AI assistants, covering a wide spectrum of applications.
Microsoft stated that the Copilot AI assistant will function as a virtual employee, responsible for monitoring emails, automating tasks, assisting with employee onboarding, or data entry tasks, and the new features will be previewed later this year in Copilot Studio.
Phi-3-vision is a new version of the Phi-3 AI model capable of reading text and analyzing images, compact in size and suitable for mobile devices. Image analysis is one of the key applications promoted by AI companies, with smartphones being their ideal platform. Phi-3-vision is part of the Phi-3 series models announced by Microsoft in April and is currently in the preview stage.
Microsoft's Edge browser is set to launch AI-driven real-time video translation capabilities, enabling translation of videos from websites like YouTube, LinkedIn, Reuters, and Coursera. The feature supports translations from Spanish to English, or from English to German, Hindi, Italian, and Russian, with more languages and video platforms to be added in the future.
Microsoft Teams will introduce custom emoji functionality in July, allowing users to add custom emojis like Disco Parrot and silhouettes of colleagues. Administrators can restrict who can add emojis, and these emojis will not be visible outside the organization's domain.
Additionally, Qualcomm has launched a Snapdragon Dev Kit similar to the Mac Mini, priced at $899, featuring the Snapdragon X Elite chipset, 32GB RAM, 512GB SSD, and multiple ports.
Developers will be able to track their code projects in File Explorer, supporting viewing file statuses, submission information, and current branches. Furthermore, the application now natively supports 7-zip and TAR compression formats.
A new feature called "Advanced Paste" in the Microsoft PowerToys suite has been released, allowing users to convert formats like plain text, markdown, or JSON when pasting content. Users can trigger the advanced paste menu by pressing Windows Key + Shift + V, and this feature requires OpenAI API key and OpenAI account credits to support the AI portion.
