Richard Yu: Breaking the History! Huawei Mate 70 Series Coming Soon!
Richard Yu announced on Weibo that Huawei Mate 70 series will be released soon, or equipped with a new Hongmeng operating system to enhance imaging and AI functions.
Recently, media reports indicated that the Huawei Mate 70 series is in the midst of intensive production. Back in the first quarter of this year, Huawei's Vice Chairman and rotating Chairman Xu Zhijun expressed hopes that the Mate 70 series would launch with the "pure-blood HarmonyOS" operating system.
As the highly sought-after high-end flagship smartphone series, there is much speculation and anticipation regarding the advanced technologies that the new Mate device will feature.
Following this announcement, speculation arose that the Huawei Mate 70 series models would debut in early November rather than mid-November as previously rumored. It is also likely that they will be launched with Huawei’s native HarmonyOS, making advancements in areas such as imaging, AI, and performance.
Regarding Huawei's application ecosystem, informed sources revealed that the "pure-blood HarmonyOS" compatible versions of mainstream domestic applications like WeChat are being accelerated, and following the addition of more new features, they have recently been widely released in the Huawei App Market.
On September 10, Huawei held the "Extraordinary Brand Ceremony" and HarmonyOS Intelligent Driving New Product Launch in Shenzhen, where it unveiled new products including the Huawei Mate XT Extraordinary Master. The starting price for the Huawei Mate XT Extraordinary Master is 19,999 RMB. Richard Yu stated at the launch: "Today, we will once again rewrite industry history, turning science fiction into reality and leading a new era of folding phones. This is the world's first triple-fold screen smartphone, the Huawei Mate XT Extraordinary Master!"
On September 20, the Huawei Mate XT Extraordinary Master officially went on sale, selling out almost instantly on the official website and third-party e-commerce platforms. Richard Yu noted that the sales exceeded expectations significantly.
At the Huawei Autumn Full-Scenario Launch on September 24, Richard Yu announced that HarmonyOS NEXT would enter public testing on October 8. This system is viewed as a key move for Huawei to cut ties with Android and adopt a self-developed architecture. Insiders stated: "The ideal situation is for the Mate 70 to debut with the pure-blood HarmonyOS, but the current pace is tight; internally, we hope for a gradual progression and a good outcome."
It is noteworthy that in August this year, the Huawei Mate 60 series saw its first price reduction after launch: the Mate 60 dropped by 500 RMB to a starting price of 4,999 RMB; the Mate 60 Pro decreased by 800 RMB to a starting price of 5,699 RMB; the Mate 60 Pro+ also fell by 800 RMB to a starting price of 8,199 RMB; however, the Mate 60 RS Extraordinary Master did not have its price adjusted. Industry analysts believe this price reduction may be a preparation for the upcoming Mate 70 series.
Data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) shows that in the third quarter of 2024, Huawei captured a 15.3% share of the Chinese smartphone market, ranking third, with sales growing 42% year-over-year. This marks four consecutive quarters of double-digit year-over-year growth for Huawei since its return to the smartphone market, highlighting its advantage in the domestic high-end smartphone sector.
In contrast, consumer willingness to purchase Apple's iPhone series appears to be gradually waning. According to Apple’s latest quarterly earnings report, iPhone revenue was $46.222 billion, up from $43.81 billion in the same period last year, reflecting only a 5.5% year-over-year increase. This growth indicates that the iPhone still maintains strong market competitiveness globally.
At the same time, Counterpoint's research report reveals that in the third quarter of 2024, the iPhone fell out of the top five in China's smartphone market again. This marks another decline since Apple first dropped out of the top five in the second quarter, with the latest iPhone 16 series failing to remedy the situation.
IDC's report indicates that in the first quarter of 2024, Apple’s shipments in the Chinese market fell by 6.6% year-over-year, ranking third in the domestic market. In the third quarter, its market share was 15.6%, a decrease of 0.3% year-over-year. While Apple continues to hold a strong position in the global market, its performance in the Chinese market shows a downward trend.
