Microsoft Delays Recall AI Due To Security Concerns
Microsoft is delaying plans to introduce an AI feature called "Recall" on new PCs launching next week.
Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) has announced a delay in introducing a new AI feature called "Recall" on PCs next week. This feature analyzes computer activities and generates a history for users to review operations from months ago.
Additionally, Microsoft stated that due to privacy concerns, the Recall feature will initially be previewed with a smaller group.
In a blog post, Microsoft revealed that Recall, originally scheduled to launch publicly for Copilot+ PC users on June 18th, will now be gradually rolled out as a preview feature within the Microsoft Windows Insider Program (WIP) over the coming weeks.
Copilot+ PC is a type of PC introduced in May this year with AI capabilities. WIP is a public software testing program that allows millions of "loyal fans of Windows" to experience new OS features.
Shortly after the introduction of the Recall feature, concerns about privacy emerged on social media, with some users worried about potential surveillance implications. Tech billionaire Elon Musk referred to it as a scenario from "Black Mirror," a series exploring the negative impacts of advanced technology.
Microsoft stated that based on feedback from the WIP community, the company will soon release a preview version of the Recall feature to all Copilot+ PC users.
