NVIDIA denied receiving a subpoena from the U.S. Department of Justice, according to a statement released Wednesday. The company said, “NVIDIA has contacted the U.S. Department of Justice and has not received any subpoena.”
The statement also added that the company is willing to cooperate with any inquiries from regulators on business issues.
Earlier, a media report said that the U.S. Department of Justice has issued a subpoena to NVIDIA, signaling an escalating potential antitrust investigation against the company.
The report mentioned that in addition to NVIDIA, several other companies have also received subpoenas from the Department of Justice. Sources familiar with the matter said that the DOJ has asked several tech companies about NVIDIA's business practices in recent weeks, particularly its strategy of bundling sales of hardware.
In addition to the bundled sales concerns, sources also said that DOJ officials are also investigating NVIDIA's $700 million acquisition of Israeli artificial intelligence company Run:AI in April of this year, and that officials are evaluating whether the acquisition will further strengthen NVIDIA's dominant position in the artificial intelligence computing market.
