Economist: Economic impact of massive U.S. government layoffs may be limited
Internet reports that under the direction of the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency, U.S. federal agencies have recently made successive layoffs. Despite the growing number of lawsuits, the government's phase-out in terms of funds and personnel seems likely to continue. So far, its long-term impact is unclear. Although markets have reacted negatively to policies such as tariffs, investors do not seem to be worried about federal layoffs; in the past week alone, the S & P 500 has hit new highs twice. There are 3 million federal government employees in the United States, accounting for approximately 1.9% of all employment in the United States excluding the military. Paiger Investment said 29,000 federal workers had been laid off as of Friday. So far, economists have not issued warnings about this.
