According to media reports, last year a hacker successfully hacked into OpenAI's internal communication network and obtained information about the company's artificial intelligence capability architecture.
The report stated that the hacker obtained this information through a discussion on an online forum where employees discussed the latest technology of OpenAI. However, hackers were unable to access the systems used by OpenAI to store and build their AI systems.
OpenAI is the company behind the popular chatbot ChatGPT, supported by Microsoft.
The report mentioned that the leadership of OpenAI informed employees of this incident at a staff meeting in April last year and reported it to the company's board of directors, but they chose not to disclose this information because no customer or partner information was stolen.
OpenAI executives believe that this incident does not constitute a national security threat, as the hacker is a private individual with no contact with any known foreign institutions. OpenAI also did not report this matter to federal law enforcement agencies.
OpenAI stated last month that it has prevented five covert influence actions attempting to use its AI model for "deceptive activities."
It is understood that the Biden administration is preparing to take new measures to protect American AI technology from the influence of other countries. The initial plan is to establish a protective barrier for the most powerful AI models, such as ChatGPT.
At a global conference in May this year, 16 AI companies agreed to secure the development of this technology due to regulatory agencies struggling to keep up with the rapid pace of innovation and increasing risks.
