New pattern of AI development in Southeast Asia: Singapore Telecom brings full-stack AI platform with Nvidia
Singapore Telecom announced that it will work with Nvidia to deploy AI capabilities in its multiple data centers across Southeast Asia to meet the region's data needs in the context of the growth of the digital economy.。
On January 31, Singapore Telecom (Singtel) announced that its Digital InfraCo division will cooperate with Nvidia to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) into Southeast Asia, deploying AI functions in its multiple data centers across Southeast Asia to meet the region's data needs in the context of digital economic growth.。
Singtel is currently building energy-efficient data centers across Southeast Asia。On February 1, Singtel officially joined Nvidia's Partner Network Cloud initiative, bringing Nvidia's full-stack AI platform to enterprises in the region. The built-in Nvidia AI cloud will be hosted by Nxera regional data center business to develop a new generation of sustainable, hyper-connected AI data centers.。In addition, it is equipped with NVIDIA Hopper architecture GPU, which can safely, quickly and accurately process private data sets of enterprises, schools and government agencies, and give valuable insights。
Recently, Singtel launched the Nxera regional data center brand, officially becoming Nvidia's cloud partner, providing optimized AI services on its software platform, building and deploying AI applications。In this collaboration, Singtel's regional data centers will provide remote access to Nvidia graphics processor units in segments, thereby reducing the cost of using AI technology to support digital services。
This series of initiatives caters to Singapore's National AI Strategy 2.0, a major expansion of the country's computing infrastructure and machine learning expert talent pool。For enterprises, these compute-intensive services provide secure and easy access to NVIDIA GPU clusters on the Nxera AI DC platform in the region, enhancing and personalizing products and services while protecting sensitive enterprise data。
Bill Chang, CEO of Nxera and Singtel Digital Infrastructure, said: "We will work with Nvidia to launch AI infrastructure services that will democratize access for businesses, government agencies and research organizations, and enable the sustainable use of AI technology in our proprietary AI data centers.。"
Ronnie Vasishta, senior vice president of Nvidia Telecom, said: "This partnership will combine technology and expertise to advance the development of AI infrastructure in Singapore and across the ASEAN region.。"
Singtel's first AI service will be launched in Singapore, with plans to expand its business from Australia to India with a focus on Singapore.。Elsewhere in Southeast Asia, the company's projects in Thailand and Indonesia have also been launched, which are expected to increase Singapore's total pipeline capacity to 200 MW from the current 62 MW.。
More than that, Singtel is also looking at Malaysia, Vietnam and other Asia-Pacific markets, while Bill Chang also said: "Considering the needs of many customers, the company is looking at entering the Japanese and Australian markets.。"
In 2023, Singtel restructured its business to increase productivity, merging its domestic consumer and enterprise businesses, and at the same time established the Digital Infra Co division, which is responsible for regional data centers, submarine cable and satellite operators, among other businesses.。
In September of the same year, U.S. private equity firm KKR announced that it would pay S $1.1 billion (about 8.$200 million) to acquire a 20% stake in Digital Infra Co, jumping its value to S $5.5 billion (about 40.$900 million), providing financial support for the company's further expansion of its digital infrastructure business in Southeast Asia.。
Heng Swee Keat, Singapore's deputy prime minister, said: "ASEAN's digital economy is expected to more than triple from the current nearly $300 billion to $1 trillion by 2030.。"
Kearney, a consulting firm in the United States, predicts that by 2030, AI will increase Southeast Asia's GDP by 10% to 18%, or about $1 trillion.。
