Apple will showcase its AI technology and introduce multiple practical AI features in WWDC 2024.
AI functionality and practicality improvement
At WWDC 2024, Apple will showcase its AI technology, but it will not showcase fancy features like Google, Microsoft, or OpenAI. According to reports, Apple will launch basic AI features such as voice memo transcription and automatic generation of emoticons, and will announce cooperation with OpenAI.
Deeply integrated chatbots
Apple will allow chatbots to integrate more deeply into its operating system, OpenAI's ChatGPT will be the first to collaborate with Apple. Apple is still discussing a similar collaboration with Google, involving Google's Gemini. In addition, Apple is also in discussions with Aerospace. These collaborations will make Apple's AI features more practical and extensive.
Main AI improvement features
According to reports, Apple will announce a feature called "Smart Review" that summarizes missed messages, notifications, web pages, news articles, files, notes, etc., which is particularly useful for handling iOS notifications. Apple will also introduce AI generated transcription functions for voice memo applications, which are particularly helpful for journalists and students.
Other improvements include enhancing Spotlight search Safari online search and writing suggestions for emails and text messages. Apple also plans to use AI to retouch and generate emoticons, which may cause some issues but are still interesting enhancements.
Siri and device performance improvement
Apple will showcase Siri's more natural speech based on its own large-scale language model, as well as the more powerful Siri features on the Apple Watch. Most of these AI features will be completed locally on the device, but complex tasks will be handled by Apple's M2 Ultra server. The latest released devices will receive most of the new local AI features.
In addition to AI features, Apple also plans to announce a new feature in iOS 18 that allows users to change the color of application icons. Users can also arrange the application icons on the main screen freely, instead of being forced to arrange them from top to bottom or left to right.
