Coinbase filed a FOIA request requesting the SEC to disclose Gensler's enforcement spending on the crypto industry during his tenure "
On March 3, Fox Business News reporter Eleanor Terrett issued an article on the X platform stating that Coinbase has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to disclose the SEC's non-fraud investigation and enforcement actions against the crypto industry during the tenure of former Chairman Gary Gensler. The request covers the period from April 17, 2021 to January 20, 2025, and involves regulatory enforcement actions such as digital asset sales, secondary market transactions, pledges and loans. Coinbase wants to obtain details on the number and names of relevant investigations and lawsuits, as well as on the hours, salaries of SEC employees and outsourcing personnel, and the budget of the crypto assets and cybersecurity department. Paul Grewal, chief legal officer of Coinbase, said the move is aimed at improving regulatory transparency and hopes the new SEC leadership can strengthen accountability. However, the SEC has not yet responded to this.
