US special prosecutor drops election subversion case against Trump
The Internet reported that according to CNN, U.S. Special Prosecutor Jack Smith said on Monday that he would drop the subversion case against President-elect Trump and sought to drop the case in a court document filed with a judge. Trump has said he will fire Smith once he takes office, breaking previous practice of special prosecutor investigations. "The Justice Department's position is that the Constitution requires the case to be dismissed before the defendant is sworn in," Smith wrote in a six-page document. Smith's criminal manhunt of Trump over the past two years for trying to subvert the 2020 presidential election and his mishandling of classified documents is a very unique chapter in U.S. history: Never before has a former White House owner faced federal criminal charges.
