The EU data regulator has proposed rules that restrict how individuals 'blockchain data is stored

On April 23, Decrypt reported that the European Data Protection Commission has approved draft rules governing how personal data is stored and shared on the blockchain. The European Data Protection Commission (EDPB) said the new guidelines restrict access to stored information and comply with the protection requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The EDPB approved the rules this month and opened it to public comment with a deadline of June 9. The new guidance states: "Certain characteristics of blockchain may pose challenges when meeting GDPR requirements. The guidance emphasizes the need for design and default data protection, as well as adequate organizational and technical measures." The document added: "In general, storing personal data on the blockchain should be avoided if there is conflict with data protection principles."
