Russia bans crypto mining in 10 regions for 6 years
On December 24, according to Russia's Tass news agency, starting from January 1, 2025, 10 regions of Russia (Dagestan, the Republic of Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkar, Karachay-Cherks Republic, North Ossetia, Chechnya, Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, as well as Zaporozhye and Kherson Oblast.) Cryptocurrency mining will be completely banned for a period of six years. The ban will last until March 15, 2031. Russian lawmakers have also approved seasonal restrictions in major cryptocurrency mining areas to prevent power outages. These restrictions are consistent with the Russian Cryptocurrency Mining Law signed by the President in August and October 2024.
