People familiar with the matter: Trump administration advances large-scale antitrust investigation into Microsoft

Online reports, according to foreign media reports, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is advancing a large-scale antitrust investigation into Microsoft (MSFT.O) at the end of the Biden administration, which shows that censorship of technology giants is the Trump administration's new FTC Chairman Ferguson's top priority. According to people familiar with the matter, FTC staff have been continuing the investigation in recent weeks, meeting with businesses and other groups to gather information. Late last year, the FTC issued a so-called civil investigation request to Microsoft. The document forced the company to hand over a large amount of data about its artificial intelligence business, including the cost of training models and acquiring data, dating back as early as 2016. The agency wants to learn details about Microsoft's data center and the company's efforts to find enough computing power to meet customer needs. The FTC is also carefully reviewing Microsoft's decision to cut funding for its own artificial intelligence projects after reaching a deal with OpenAI, which could be seen as damaging competition in the AI market. The progress of the investigation is now in the hands of Ferguson and his new competition director Guane. Guanella previously worked for the Justice Department, overseeing antitrust cases against Alphabet and Apple.
