Huawei-backed brands plan fourth model Aito M8

The Aito M8 has been tested for spying and is expected to launch by the end of the year.。It should be a five-seat SUV.。

The fourth model of the Aito brand was recently spy-tested。The new SUV, dubbed the M8, will fill the model gap between the current M7 and M9 cars.。Previous information has suggested that the M8 is largely a five-seater version of the M9.。

We can indeed see from the spy photos that the shape and silhouette of the M8 is similar to the cash M9。The car looks mostly straight; however, the window line seems to be tilted up behind the C-pillar。Still, it may just be a disguise to confuse us。

Unlike the M9, it does not have a lidar device installed on the roof。This could mean one of several things。First of all, the car in the picture may be just a lower-spec version, it is not equipped with lidar, but it seems unlikely that even the M9 will use lidar as a standard configuration for the entire series。Another possibility is that the car uses a purely vision-based system to implement intelligent driving functions。Huawei's latest ADS system is called Qiankun 3.0, its SE version is a purely vision-based system。However, it is aimed at cheaper cars such as the Deepal S07, so it will not be used in cars such as the M8。The system only supports assisted driving on highways, urban expressways and on-ramp entrances and exits。This could mean Huawei is moving to high-end vision systems。It should be noted that Xiaopeng cars equipped with the XNGP system will no longer need to use lidar in the future, and the upcoming Xiaopeng P7 equipped with this system will also not have lidar。

Interior spy photos of the M8 suggest it will have a very similar interior to the M9, with a three-screen design.。

M8 may launch all-electric and EREV versions, the power system should be roughly the same as M9。Take the EREV version of the M9 (see specifications) as an example, it uses a maximum power of 112kW 1.5T engine as range extender。The actual power of the wheels comes from the front 165 kW electric motor and the rear 200 kW device。The combined peak torque of the system is 675 Nm。For BEV, there is a 160 kW motor in the front and a more powerful 230 kW motor in the back。Surprisingly, the torque of the BEV version is slightly lower, totaling 673 Nm。EREV is equipped with a 42kWh battery pack with a pure electric cruising range of 190 kilometers, while BEV is equipped with a 100kWh battery pack with a cruising range of 630 kilometers. Both are measured using the CLTC system。

Aito is a brand (Harmony Smart Travel Alliance) eco-cooperation model developed by Huawei and Seres using HIM。Under this, Huawei not only provides intelligent cockpit and intelligent driving solutions, but also involves the design, production, sales, after-sales and other aspects of the vehicle, but does not include the production of cars.。

Earlier this year, Seres began using the 10,000-ton super die-casting machine set to produce the rear body unit of the Aito M9。This has reduced the number of parts by nearly 80 and the number of solder joints by about 1440。It is reported that this manufacturing technology will also be used for M8。

Aito, which has a 2024 sales target of 600,000 vehicles, believes the M8 model will be available in the coming months, and plans call for it to be included as part of total sales.。
