Meta or cooperation with Tencent will return to China through Quest series headshots

Recently, Meta is negotiating a partnership with Tencent, and Zuckerberg wants to return to China through Meta's Quest series of headsets。It is reported that Zuckerberg has been in contact with a number of Chinese technology companies, and is likely to choose to cooperate with Tencent.。

The hottest topic of technology applications in recent times is undoubtedly AI, in contrast, the discussion of related concepts such as the meta-universe has declined a lot.。The only heat is also mostly to discuss Apple's MR Head Display Vision Pro released last month.。In this case, Zuckerberg can't sit still。

According to media reports, Meta is in talks with Tencent to reopen the door to the Chinese market.。In recent years, Apple, Tesla and other American brands have developed like a duck to water in China, and product sales have repeatedly hit new highs.。Meta also wants a piece of China's huge market, which the company has been trying to break into since 2021。

And Zuckerberg wants to return to China with Meta's Quest series head show。It is reported that Zuckerberg has been in contact with a number of Chinese technology companies, and is likely to choose to cooperate with Tencent.。

The partnership between the two companies will mean a lot to each other.。

On the one hand, for Meta, opening up the Chinese market could "fill the hole" for the billions of dollars it spends on the meta-universe.。Although the Quest series is dominated by office, the game field is also involved.。Meta announced last week the launch of a new gaming subscription service on its VR headset。Subscribers receive two games per month, which can be redeemed via the Internet, the headset, or the Meta Quest app。

On the other hand, as a giant in China's domestic game industry, Tencent has massive resources to develop VR games, but Tencent itself has not yet developed VR gaming devices.。In February this year, it was reported that Tencent had eliminated all positions on its XR team, which has more than 300 employees, and these employees will have a two-month "buffer period" to seek internal job transfers or external priority referral opportunities.。Tencent then responded by denying rumors of the dissolution of its XR team and stressed that it would not give up exploring XR, although the company also admitted it was adjusting its direction.。For a long time, Tencent in the hardware research and development above are not too "on the heart," the development of today, has become a more obvious "short board"。So, if Tencent wants to dabble in the meta-universe at this stage, working with Meta would be a good choice.。

However, Tencent is more cautious about its cooperation with Meta.。Late last year, Tencent executives had a heated discussion about whether to work with Meta。The final instructions to agree to the negotiations were given personally by Tencent founder and chairman Ma Huateng, who said, "Let's see what agreement they can reach first."。If the two finally "hold hands" smoothly, Tencent is likely to become the exclusive seller of the Meta Quest series in China.。

Meta Quest Pro

However, once Meta's head really enters the Chinese market, the competition it faces will not be small.。

Meta's competitors include ByteDance's Pico-related products。Although Pico is not sold in the United States, Europe and Asia are Pico's "home turf" and are one of Meta's main competitors.。In the 3,000 to 4,000 price range, Pico has Pico 4 Pro that can be benchmarked against Meta Quest 3.。Pico 4 Pro currently sells for 3,799 RMB, Meta Quest 3 for around 3,500 RMB。According to Counterpoint data, Pico series headsets ranked first among local VR headsets in China in 2022, accounting for 43%。

In the high price range, Meta faces competition from established rivals such as HTC Electronics。As the world's second largest VR head-mounted display manufacturer, HTC's VR equipment is also very good.。Earlier this year, HTC Electronics exhibited the latest AR / VR headset of Meta-marked Quest Pro at CES 2023 - HTC Vive XR Elite。The device is its first XR all-in-one machine and costs 7,809 RMB, which is not much different from the Meta Quest Pro price (approximately 7,098 RMB)。It can be seen that Meta's two main Quest headsets do not have a great price advantage in China.。

In addition to its Chinese rivals, Apple also released its self-developed MR Head Display Vision Pro last month.。But the Vision Pro sells for up to $3,499 (about 24,800 yuan), which is not the same track as Meta.。And the delivery speed of Vision Pro is also relatively slow, Apple said, Vision Pro will be launched in the United States early next year, and landing in more countries and regions in the evening of next year。

It's hard to say whether Meta can finally successfully "hold hands" with Tencent. Even if it successfully enters the Chinese market, whether it can "gain a firm foothold" is also a question.。
