Goldman Sachs: Tariffs between Canada and Mexico will increase U.S. inflation by 0.6%"

According to online reports, Goldman Sachs economists predict that Trump's 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico and a 10% tariff on Canadian energy will increase U.S. core consumer prices by 0.6%. "We do not rule out the possibility of a last-minute suspension of tariffs," they wrote in a note to customers on Monday night. "This time, an obvious strategy is to delay the deadline until April 2 to be consistent with other planned tariff announcements. If tariffs take effect, we believe they are unlikely to become a permanent feature of U.S. trade policy, although it is uncertain how long they will last." The core consumer price index excluding food and energy in the United States rose 3.3% year-on-year in January, while the Federal Reserve's preference PCE index rose 2.6% year-on-year. (Jin Shi)
