Galaxy Digital has signed an agreement to convert its 800 MW mining capacity into high-performance computing "
New York-based Galaxy Digital said in its third-quarter earnings report that it signed a non-binding terms list with an unnamed U.S. superscale company that can convert all 800 megawatts (MW) of its electricity capacity to high-performance computing (HPC), the Internet reported. Hyperscale companies are large data centers that specialize in providing large amounts of computing power. The move comes as the halving of Bitcoin has caused profits for the company and the entire mining industry to decline. Galaxy's Helios mining facility in western Texas has approved a power generation capacity of 800MW, of which 200MW are currently in operation. According to the statement, the facility also has 1.7 gigawatts (GW) of power generation capacity under study pending potential permits. Galaxy said mining revenue fell 23% from the previous quarter despite an 11% increase in total hash rate or mining capacity due to halving, increased mining difficulty and seasonal operations curtailments.
