U.S. Rep. Emmer calls for advancing stablecoin legislation to oppose CBDC
According to Internet reports, U.S. Rep. Tom Emmer called for priority to advance legislation to support stablecoins at the U.S. House Financial Services Committee hearing on March 11, while calling Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) a threat to U.S. values. Emmer reintroduced the "CBDC Anti-Surveillance State Act" in the House on March 6, which aims to prevent future governments from launching U.S. CBDC without explicit approval from Congress. "CBDC technology is inherently non-American," he said, warning that allowing unelected officials to issue CBDC"may subvert the American way of life."
