Spanish police smashed a cryptocurrency investment scam that used AI to defraud $21.5 million

Internet reports, Decrypt reported that Spanish police arrested six suspects and successfully smashed a cryptocurrency investment fraud ring that had been operating for two years. The gang used artificial intelligence technology to create fake celebrity videos and defrauded a total of 208 victims, involving more than US$21.5 million. The investigation into the case began two years ago when a victim from the city of Granada reported to police that more than $700,000 had been lost. Fraud gangs attract investors by promising high returns and require victims to invest more to get back the principal. Police said the gang's main leader was captured as he was preparing to flee to Dubai, and six suspects, aged between 34 and 57, have been charged with fraud, money laundering and forgery of documents. The case is still under further investigation.
